New York State of Mind…

NY Jets must prepare for LT & the Super Chargers!
Well, the New York Jets have finally done it and now that 1st playoff win takes them down south to America’s Finest City to take on the San Diego Super Chargers who had a first round bye. I’m sure with the weather of late, San Diego will be infested with New York Jet fans so they can enjoy the beautiful weather we’ve been having (about 72 degrees as I post this).
With great weather, comes “golf”, and with New York fans coming to San Diego in January comes the “need to golf”. We’ve been getting calls as soon as one hour after the Cincinatti Bengals lost to the Jets from fans looking to book their tee times. Most of the early rounds on Sunday have been filling up, but with booking 20 courses in San Diego, we’re bound to find something that fits your bill. Check for the earliest Sunday morning tee times at San Diego’s finest championship golf courses here.
If you plan on coming this week and make a vacation out of it, there are plenty of available times around the city at the finest championship golf courses San Diego has to offer. Friday and Saturday especially may be the perfect fit for the New Yorker who wants to relax in paradise before the anxious game rips out their heart (All but one of us here in the office are Charger fans, the other a Dallas Cowboy fan - no comment).
As much as we want the Charger’s to win, we’re golf enthusiasts and extremely customer friendly. We may not chant J…E…T…S…, but we’ll help you figure out the best course for your budget, your game, and the distance you are willing to travel. Check out our list of courses. We’re a free service so give us a call and get your round of golf booked TODAY!

Top 250 Golf Courses of the USA Ranked for 2009
Top 100 Golf Courses, home of the most informed golf course rankings in the world, is pleased to announce America’s Top 250 Golf Courses have now been ranked for 2009. Building on the success of the Top 200 courses of the USA that we published in February we have added 50 further courses and re-ranked the entire list based on the most recent ranking data.
Most golfers cannot play a significant proportion of America’s Top 100 Golf Courses as listed by other golf publications. We believe that each time we extend the list to a higher number, US golfers will have a more realistic chance of playing a top ranked course.
Additionally, golfers from the UK & Europe travelling to the USA are able to search for the best golf courses in every US State.
The ratings on the Top 100 website blend rankings from all the leading publications, and then our readers have the opportunity to influence these figures via the ‘write a review’ facility on the website, which includes the ability to rate a course between 1 and 6 golf balls (where 6 is the highest rating). Currently there are more than 30,000 golf course reviews posted on-line by golfers from all around the globe.
Top 100 Golf Courses is truly independent, having no association with any magazine publications.

2009 SAMSUNG WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP IN SAN DIEGO!

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Torrey Pines Golf Course will host an LPGA Tour event for the first time in 27 years under an agreement to hold the Samsung World Championship on the South Course in September.
The Samsung World Championship, to be held Sept. 17-20, features a 20-player field that includes the four major champions and top players from the money list. Paula Creamer won last year at Half Moon Bay in San Francisco.
It will be the second pro tournament this year at Torrey Pines, which has hosted the Buick Invitational since 1968. The public golf course along the Pacific bluffs gained more notoriety last year when Tiger Woods won the U.S. Open in a playoff.
The course will be nearly 1,000 yards shorter for the Samsung World Championship, which will be just over 6,700 yards.
The LPGA Tour last went to Torrey Pines for the 1983 Inamori Classic.
The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the South Course became available for the LPGA Tour when two corporations canceled outings during the week the LPGA wanted its tournament. Another corporate outing to be held Monday of tournament week will limit practice by the 20 players in the field.
Jon Maddern, deputy director of golf operations for the city of San Diego, said the tournament organizer IMG has agreed to reimburse the city for lost green fees on the South Course and for staff overtime during the tournament, which he estimated at $200,000.

San Diego Golf Greats!
Â
The San Diego Convention & Visitor’s Bureau recently compiled some of the legends in San Diego’s golf history and shared it with us. We thought we’d pass it along to our visitor’s as well.
The San Diego region has cultivated many world-famous, award-winning athletes in a variety of different sports, including baseball star Ted Williams, football’s Marcus Allen, Terrell Davis, and Reggie Bush, track and field star Gail Devers, and basketball phenomenon Bill Walton.
Golf is no exception. Amid PGA’s exciting golf scene in the 1960s, Billy Casper, Gene Littler and Phil Rodgers were known as the 1-2-3 punch from San Diego. Scott Simpson, also a San Diego native, grew up watching these three golf greats, just as local Phil Mickelson grew up admiring Simpson’s game. Mickelson, on his way to surpassing the foursome, is challenging Casper’s status as San Diego’s most successful player with his collection of wins.
Here is a highlight of San Diego’s most successful professional golfers:
· Billy Casper is currently tied with Phil Mickelson for the most majors won by a San Diegan at 3. A two-time PGA player of the year (1966, 1970), he also has two U.S. Open wins (1959, 1966), one Masters win (1970), and one U.S. Senior Open win (1983). Casper was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1978 with 51 PGA Tour wins and nine Senior Tour wins.
· Gene Littler, credited as one of the new breed of college-educated golfers-to-turn professional in the 1950s, is known for his smooth, rhythmical swing. A San Diego State University alumnus, Littler won the U.S. Open in 1961 and had acquired five PGA Tour wins and eight Senior Tour wins by the time he was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1990.
· Phil Mickelson, recent winner of the 2006 Masters, is one of San Diego’s most famous golfers. A local high school golf star, Mickelson continued his career at Arizona State University, winning three NCAA championships. He then moved into the PGA where he currently has 31 Tour victories. Mickelson and his family still reside in San Diego County.
· Phil Rodgers, one of the game’s finest amateurs of his time and the 1958 NCAA champion, was named on the Top 100 Teachers List for 2005-2006 by Golf Magazine. Rodgers became a premier short game instructor after his time on the PGA Tour, having been credited with helping Jack Nicklaus end his “slump†by winning the 1980 U.S. Open.
· Scott Simpson, a professional on the PGA Tour since 1979, won his first and only U.S. Open title in 1987, dueling Tom Watson in the final round. Simpson, with seven other PGA Tour wins, finished 2nd place twice on the PGA Champions Tour in 2006.
